Designing A Custom Wood Dining Table For Your Home: Where To Begin

So, you have decided you want to design a custom wood dining table. Want to know a secret? Your decision is just the start. When you design custom furniture, every element of the design is left up to you, so there are a lot of decisions you need to make. To ensure your custom wood piece is everything you have envisioned, learn about some of the things you need to consider.

Seating Needs

Start the design process with an assessment of your seating needs. More specifically, think about how many people you need to seat, and how often. For example, you can have a table that seats 6 or a table that seats 6 with the option to seat 8.

How many people you need to seat will determine the dimensions of the table, as you want to ensure each person at the table has adequate room. Whether or not you want the option to expand the table's seating will determine whether or not you need to add a leaf element to the table.

Support Style

Your table cannot magically levitate in the air, so you need to think about how you want to support the table. For a dining table, traditionally, there are two options, a leg or a pedestal option. A leg supported table will have four legs at opposite corners of the table and a pedestal support base will have two to three x-shaped posts.

Both options can provide adequate long-term support, but the difference comes down to style. If you want a more elegant or unique look, a pedestal support base should be your top choice.

Décor and Style

A great thing about wood is that in the design world, it is a blank canvas. You can alter the look of wood to pair well with just about any type of décor or style. To make sure you get it right, you want to have a general idea of what the overall style of your dining room is.

For instance, for a contemporary space, less is more. However, for an elegant dining room, your designer can add embellishments and carvings in the support base or on the tabletop to give it a more upgraded look.

Do not worry, your custom wood furniture builder will be right there with you every step of the way to help you with every decision to ensure you design a dining table you will enjoy for years to come.
