What To Know About Purchasing A Liquidation Mattress

In developed countries, such as the United States, mattresses are seen more as a necessity than a luxury. Regardless of whether the mattress sits on the floor or a frame, having a good mattress makes sleep much better. The average life of a mattress varies based on personal preferences and the mattress itself, but getting a new one every seven to ten years is recommended.

Mattresses are no small expense. Prices range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Purchasing a closeout or a liquidation mattress can save you a lot of money on this huge purchase.

What is a "liquidation" or "closeout" mattress?

These mattresses are basically stock that needs to be moved. Mattresses are usually labeled "closeout" when they are overstock items, discontinued, warehouse open box items, or inventory from a closed store. They are still new mattresses, they're just mattresses that really need to be sold.

How can liquidation mattresses be sold so cheap?

Retail locations typically mark up mattress prices for a profit. Purchasing a closeout or liquidation mattress skips the mark-up you may get when looking to purchase a regularly priced mattress.

Depending on where and how you purchase the mattress, it may not come with a warranty, and the return policy may not be great or may be nonexistent. Mattresses will be sold even cheaper when there is no physical retail location and showroom involved.

What is the benefit of buying a closeout mattress?

The first and most obvious benefit is the cost savings you will get.

Although you may not be able to test out the mattresses prior to purchase, wasting your time laying on beds in a showroom has been found to make no real difference in the long run. New mattresses also don't feel like the mattresses in the store, which have likely been broken in by the time you lay on it. By avoiding the theatrics of testing mattresses in the store, you are also going to be less exposed to salespeople.

Although you may not get a great warranty or return policy by purchasing a liquidated mattress, keep in mind that returning a mattress is a huge hassle. It may even cost you money to do so, and many people find it to be more work than it's worth.

When it is finally time to make a new mattress purchase, skip the fancy mattress stores and their marked-up prices. Find a mattress liquidation store or closeout sale to get a great deal for less hassle.
